S.T.E.M. Classes

 Thursday STEM Classes at BYL

At Building Young Leaders we know that developing confidence in academics starts with a student’s confidence in themselves and their ability to create great relationships, and we understand that true learning is so much more than textbooks. Our classes are hands-on, project based, and always focused on the whole child. True learning happens when students love to learn, and our teachers lead out! With new teachers and new class offerings, we know your students will enjoy this wonderful blend of solid education and ‘entertainment’ that teaches.

STEM Core: “Parts”
Two Class levels available: Elementary-level and Middle-school level
Cost: $199 for 14-week session, Minimum Student Number: 10

Our STEM Core Classes give our students a unique experience, with a focus in love of learning, inspiring students to learn with the ultimate goal of self-driven studying at home, solid academic work, and a safe, supportive, and fun social experience. In our STEM Core class, we achieve this through an integrated thematic approach designed to create connections rather than isolation of subject skills. Throughout a semester of this integrated approach, students will experience Earth Science, Life Science, Chemistry, Physics, Engineering, Technology, Math, research and more. We believe our hands-on, project-based and integrated approach is much more inspiring than what students typically experience. Our goal is for students not only to have a rich academic experience, but to leave wanting to learn more and excited to share what they’ve learned.

During Fall of 2019, students will experience our ‘Parts’ STEM Core Class. Students will experience more things during this semester than we can list, but here are a few:

- Atomic structure & function
- DNA structure & function
- Animal & Plant Cells structure & function
- Fungi structure & function
- Cow eye structure & function
- Suspension Bridge structure & function
- And that’s only ‘part’ of it! Lots more, too!

Foreign Language: Hola Amigos! Spanish
Young Leaders Amigos will sing lots of songs, games, speak lots of Spanish and have TONS of Fun! ‘¡Hola, Amigos!’ is a basic conversational Spanish immersion course that gives Young Leaders a chance to explore the Spanish language first-hand. Students will meet Gregor Mendel, the Father of Genetics and study his use of pea plants in genetics. They’ll even construct and understand Punnett squares and learn to identify meiosis and mitosis!

Cost: $72 for 7-week session, Minimum Student Enrollment: 8

Science for Fun: Experiments that Changed the World.

Many of the things we assume and know today, were not always assumed--they had to be discovered through questioning and experimenting. For example, we didn’t always know the scientific importance of hand-washing! Students will be challenged to solve a problem, and then learn about famous experiments that have changed our world by doing these same experiments!
