Appropriate Attire​
​​What Should Your Child Wear To Class?


NO:
Clothing with offensive or gory/scary pictures or language, or skulls
Spaghetti straps, short shorts, or undergarments that show.

YES:
Wear clothes that can get dirty to all Educational Enrichment classes, or standard BYL Performing Arts uniform for all dance classes.

Performing Arts Class Uniforms:
*Uniform items are to be purchased at the stores listed below in order to keep the uniforms exactly the same for each child.  These items may also be used as part of costuming for our performances. Items with a slightly different neckline or color shade can affect the uniformity of the class and costumes, and are not allowed.

Instructions for Low & Wide-Heel, women's black character shoes:
www.dancewearcorner.com (Item 'So Danca CH08 or CH08C).  These are the safest options for the intricate and heavy foot work they are doing.  The typical higher and thinner heel in character shoes can result in sprained ankles.

Uniform #1Rhythm & Dance, Ballet/Lyrical (Levels 2, 3, & 4)

• Hair in a ballet bun
• *Pink tank leotard 
• *Ballet-pink tights
• *Dance skirt, pink
• *Pink ballet shoes (no 'bedroom slipper' ballet shoes)
• Boys wear BYL T-shirt and black gym shorts. Shorts should not be baggy (we shouldn't see underwear during floor stretches).
• Deodorant,/anti-perspirant, a must for Level 5!

Uniform #2:  Ballet/Lyrical (Levels 5 & 6)
• Hair in a ballet bun
• *Black short-sleeved leotard 
• *Ballet-pink tights, convertible
• *Dance skirt (Levels 2 - 4 Pink, Level 5/6 Black)
• *Pink ballet shoes (no 'bedroom slipper' ballet shoes)
• Boys wear BYL T-shirt and black gym shorts. Shorts should not be baggy (we shouldn't see underwear during floor stretches).
• Deodorant,/anti-perspirant, a must for Level 5!

Uniform #3:  Hip Hop (all levels), Broadway Kids & Company, Singers Company, and Dance Fusion
• *Shirt: BYL or Singers Company t-shirt. Tummies should always be covered.
• Pants: Comfortable pants or shorts that are not restrictive (no jeans for hip hop or Broadway Kids). Shorts should not be baggy (we shouldn't see underwear during floor stretches).
• Skirt: (optional) be sure she has on a leotard or shorts underneath.
• Shoes: Hip Hop shoes should be supportive but with little traction, such as converse or jazz shoes. No boots, sandals, flip-flops, heels or dress flats.  BK&C should wear black jazz shoes, and may need to own tap shoes (if so, we will notify you).   
• When a girl or young woman bends over, we should not see down her shirt. 
• Deodorant/anti-perspirant, a must for Level 5 and higher!

Uniform #4: Ballroom and World Dance (Levels 4, 5 & 6)
• Hair in a ballet bun
• *Black short-sleeved leotard
• *Black tights, convertible OR Black leggings/spandex (Black is preferred, if you already have Ballet-Pink they are acceptable)
• *Black Dance skirt
• Shoes for Women: **Low-Heel Character Shoes (see above for purchasing instructions. The typical character shoe is NOT safe for the dances we are doing)
Shoes for Men: ​For rehearsal, men should bring their choice of athletic shoes AND the specific black men's character shoes found on our uniform list at DiscountDance.com.​
• Boys wear BYL T-shirt and black gym shorts. Shorts should not be baggy (we shouldn't see underwear during floor stretches).
• Deodorant,/anti-perspirant, a must for Level 5 and higher!

Uniform #5: YLPAC
• Hair in a ballet bun or ponytail
• *Black short-sleeved leotard
• *Black capri-length leggings, not flared (found at most department stores)
• *Black Dance skirt  found at DiscountDance.com
• Shoes for Women: **Low-Heel Character Shoes  (see above for purchasing instructions. The typical character shoe is NOT safe for the dances we are doing), pink ballet shoes, and black jazz shoes.  Athletic shoes of choice are also nice for rehearsals.
